The Cape Cod Catboat won popular acclaim in the late 1800's. Its rugged construction withstood the tough proving ground of the waters south of the Cape, and beyond, to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Strong winds, tides, and treacherous shoals demanded a design which would stand up to these conditions, yet sail fast and provide enough room to carry a large payload.

In 1962 Breck Marshall undertook an exhaustive study to recreate the best of the catboat designs. That same year saw the first SANDERLING built, using the modern-day fiberglass materials for her hull, deck, and cabin construction. The results have been boats enjoyed by today's families for daysailing, racing, or extensive coastal cruises. For over 30 years, The Marshall Company's SANDERLING  has been the standard of the industry and today we can honestly say that the quality of our hull laminate is virtually the same as the rugged specifications laid down by Breck Marshall.

In 1965 Breck introduced the MARSHALL 22, offering a boat with greater cruising accommodations and inboard power. She was followed in 1972 with the SANDPIPER - a pure daysailer. These three boats run the gamut of  practical shoal-draft catboats that are pleasing to the eye, easily sailed, and simple to maintain.
